BOOK ONLINE
MyIndici is a new patient portal service which gives you the freedom to book your doctors appointment from home and saves you time.
The registration process is quick and easy with no joining fees and no ongoing costs. You will need a valid New Zealand mobile number to confirm your identity. The details you register with must match those that are on file at Kaikōura Healthcare. If you are unable to match your account call us to check that your details are up to date.
Request a Repeat Prescription
Enrolled patients can register to order repeat prescriptions online.
Repeat prescriptions can be provided for some stable, ongoing medical conditions. This is at the discretion of your regular GP.
Repeat prescribing is done with patient safety in mind and needs to comply with legal, medical and ethical standards. We want to see patients at least every second script, which is at least once every 6 months.
However some patients need to be seen every 3 months. The final decision about whether repeat prescriptions can be done without seeing the patient rests with the medical staff.
To request a repeat prescription you can either make an online request via the patient portal or call us on 03 319 3501 and be transferred to the prescription line. The prescription line is cleared 3 times a day, Monday to Friday only.
Your prescription will be ready in 2 working days. If you require an urgent prescription, there is an additional charge and it will be processed within 24 hours. We will contact you if there are any problems with giving you a repeat prescription.
There is a charge for this service – see the Schedule of Fees for current fees and charges.
Appointments Information
Arriving at the Practice for an Appointment
Always report to reception counter on arrival please. If you are waiting more than 15 minutes please advise reception of your situation.
Our standard appointment times are 15 minutes
Sometimes despite our best intentions, we may run late. This may be because a patient has needed an unexpectedly long consultation time or because we have “fitted in” an acutely sick patient needing urgent attention, or because a patient before you arrived late.
We will do our best to minimise the wait time and apologise for any occasion when we may keep you waiting and any inconvenience this may cause.
Forms and Certificate Completion
There is a charge for all paperwork completed with or without a consultation.
Please be aware that all Work and Income and ACC forms and certificates are unable to be completed without a consultation with your Doctor. A normal consultation fee will apply.
Payment
We accept all major credit cards (except American Express), EFTPOS, cash and cheque.
We accept online payments: Westpac Bank 03-1586-0078538-00.
Please always state your name and invoice number when paying online.
How you can help us:
Kaikōura Healthcare is a busy medical centre and there are a number of things you can do which will enable us to provide the best possible service – these include:
- Please arrive on time. Let reception know you are here. If you are concerned that your GP may be running late you are welcome to call reception in advance to check. If you arrive late the receptionist will check with the doctor to see if they are still able to see you, please do not be offended if we request that you reschedule your appointment.
- Our standard appointments are booked at 15-minute intervals. Please be realistic about what can be covered in a 15-minute consultation. For good quality of care this will be 1 or 2 issues.
- If you think that you will need longer than 15 minutes please let the receptionists know when you phone for an appointment and they can book you for a double appointment. If you have a large number of health issues or major concerns to discuss with your doctor it helps to make a note of the items you want to be covered.
- Some procedures will always require more than one 15-minute appointment. Please check with the receptionist or nurse. An extra charge will apply for the extra time.
- Only book one patient per appointment.
- Where possible please plan ahead: eg. book an appointment or request a repeat prescription well before your medication is due to run out.

Urgent Accident and Medical Care
For emergencies please dial 111. We do not have an Emergency Department however if you need emergency care for major illnesses or accidents our team is trained to provide the support to assess you, treat you or stabilise you and where necessary arrange to transfer you to the appropriate tertiary/major hospital either by ambulance or by helicopter.
Accident and urgent medical care in Kaikōura is provided by Kaikōura Healthcare, the general practice, 24/7. You can call us for any urgent accident or medical issue.
As with all primary care providers in New Zealand there is a charge for urgent accident and medical care.
During business hours
Please call our clinic telephone number (03 3193501) and one of our receptionists will either arrange for a doctor or nurse to see you immediately, or arrange for a nurse to call you to assess you.
After normal business hours
Please call our clinic telephone number (03 3193501) and your call will be directed to a nurse at the triage centre. This nurse will either give you telephone advice, arrange for you to see the doctor on call or arrange for an ambulance to bring you to Kaikōura Health.
Costs of urgent accident and medical care
Healthcare in New Zealand is not free to the patient but it is subsidised by the Ministry of Health for enrolled patients (an enrolled patient is a patient who is registered with Kaikōura Healthcare Ltd) for medical consultations during normal hours and by ACC for all patients (for injuries caused by accidents – at any time). The remaining fee, the co-payment, is charged to the patient.
As you might expect, providing medical services after-hours costs more than during normal hours, especially for unplanned/urgent care.
Extra fees will/ may apply for an extended consultation, certain procedures, tests, injections and medical supplies. Some discounts apply for holders of Community Services Cards (conditions apply).
Enrolled patients
If you are under 13 years and enrolled with Kaikōura Healthcare there is no co-payment.
The fee charged to those fourteen years or over will depend on:
- whether the consultation is medical or accident (ACC discount your fee for an accident);
- whether as a registered patient you have a Community Services Card or not;
- the time of day you attend (higher fees apply after 6pm during the week);
- the day of the week you attend (higher fees apply at weekends and on public holidays);
Casual Patients
A casual patient is a patient not enrolled at the Practice who is a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or those with a work visa of two years or more.
Casual patients aged thirteen years old and younger using the Urgent Care service will need to pay a co-payment before 6pm during the week.
Casual patients aged 14 years and over will be required to pay fees for care and the fees paid will depend on:
- whether the consultation is medical or accident (ACC discount your fee for an accident);
- the time of day you attend (higher fees apply after 6pm during the week);
- the day of the week you attend (higher fees apply at weekends and on public holidays);
If you visit us as a casual patient and have not been seen by us previously, we will need to see proof of eligibility for publicly funded health and disability services in New Zealand. Please bring along your passport with visa or other valid documentation. If you are not able to provide proof of your eligibility when you visit us, we will need to charge a non-resident fee.
Visitors to New Zealand
Visitors to New Zealand may need to access healthcare whilst here and are welcome to visit Kaikōura Healthcare. Different rules apply to the provision of health services to non-residents and some details of this are given in the section below.
New Zealand is a developed country with good quality medical services.
Primary care is the usual first point of care that most people access. This is commonly a GP (general practitioner) or ‘family doctor’. You have to pay for this service. Practices are allowed to set their own rates to charge visitors. Enrolling at the practice reduces the cost but is only possible for NZ citizens or permanent residents, or those with a work visa of two years or more.
Visitors aged thirteen years old and younger using the Urgent Care service will need to pay a co-payment unless they are from a country with a reciprocal agreement with New Zealand, such as the UK and Australia.
Visitors aged 14 years and over will be required to pay fees for care and the fees paid will depend on:
- whether the consultation is medical or accident (ACC discount your fee for an accident);
- the time of day you attend (higher fees apply after 6pm during the week);
- the day of the week you attend (higher fees apply at weekends and on public holidays);
Medication costs the same amount throughout New Zealand. If you are a resident in NZ you will pay $10.00 for each prescription item. The charge for a non-resident (unless coming from a reciprocal country like Australia or the UK) will not be subsidised and the full cost of the medicine will apply.
If a visitor to New Zealand requires ambulance transport the cost can be very high.
It is strongly recommended that visitors to New Zealand have medical insurance, provided through their travel insurance, even if a ‘reciprocal arrangement’ is in place with their home country.
We take payment or credit card details from casual and non-resident patients on arrival, unless it is an emergency situation, and expect payment after care has been delivered.
MyIndici
Enrolled patients are able to use MyIndici patient portal to book appointments 24/7, 7 days a week, request repeat prescriptions, view latest lab results and other records.
To register with MyIndici each patient requires a separate email address and must be 16 years of age or over. The details you register with must match the information on our database at Kaikōura Healthcare for your registration to be activated.

You will be given partial access to be able to book online appointments.
